BILLBOARD SIZES AND SPECS

Exact artwork dimensions, file requirements, and design rules for our digital screens.

Design at the exact pixel size of the board you are booking and almost everything else falls into place.

OUR SCREEN DIMENSIONS

Export at those exact dimensions. Artwork supplied at a different aspect ratio has to be fitted, which can leave bars or crop something you wanted in frame.

  • Nashville (flagship, 38ft): 1056 x 1056 pixels, square format
  • Minot, ND: 936 x 226 pixels, wide horizontal format

FILE REQUIREMENTS

  • Formats: JPG or PNG
  • Color: RGB, not CMYK
  • File size: under about 10 MB
  • Flattened: export a single raster image, no layered source files

DESIGN RULES THAT ACTUALLY MATTER

  • One idea: six to eight words is the practical limit at driving speed
  • Big type: if it is hard to read on your phone at arm's length, it is hard to read from the road
  • High contrast: light type on dark, or dark on light, with nothing in between
  • Safe margin: keep text and logos five percent in from every edge
  • Bright and simple: LED screens favor bold color and clean shapes over fine detail

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What size should billboard artwork be?+

It depends on the board. Our Nashville digital screen takes artwork at 1056 x 1056 pixels, and our Minot screen takes 936 x 226 pixels. Design at the exact pixel size of the board you are booking.

What file formats do you accept?+

JPG and PNG both work. Export at full quality and keep the file under about 10 MB. If you are supplying a design built in a vector tool, export a flattened raster at the exact pixel dimensions.

How many words should a billboard have?+

Around six to eight words is the practical ceiling. Drivers typically have a few seconds of read time, so one idea per board works far better than a paragraph.

What resolution or DPI do digital billboards need?+

DPI is not the useful measure for an LED screen. Match the pixel dimensions of the board exactly and the screen handles the rest.

Do I need to leave a safe margin?+

Yes. Keep important text and logos at least five percent in from every edge so nothing sits uncomfortably close to the frame.
