Content Guidelines
What's allowed, what's not, and how we review — so you can create with confidence.
Free Public Queue
The free public queue is a no-cost daily slot on The Nashville Sign for personal expression — a public moment for the people who live around the screen. It is not a place to sell, promote, or advertise, and it is not a guaranteed service.
What it's for
- Shout-outs, birthdays, anniversaries, proposals, graduations
- Tributes, memorials, encouragement, thank-yous
- Inside jokes, good mornings, get-wells, hellos and goodbyes
- Genuine personal expression in public space
What it's not for
- Promoting a business, brand, product, or service
- Selling anything — goods, services, tickets, or merch
- Company names, logos, or company messaging
- Promoting music, releases, shows, streams, or artist pages
- Links, handles, QR codes, or "follow / DM / visit" CTAs
- Campaigns, fundraising, or political promotion
- Hate, harassment, or spam — ever
If your message has a commercial, promotional, or campaign angle, the free queue isn't the right path. We built a separate paid experience for that — see For Business & Music or our custom experiences on the Participate page.
Review & Discretion
Every free-queue submission is reviewed by a human and runs entirely at our sole discretion. We reserve the absolute right to reject, remove, edit, delay, reorder, or refuse to air any submission, at any time, for any reason or no reason at all, without notice, explanation, refund, or recourse. No exceptions.
The free queue is offered as a courtesy, not a contract. Submitting a message does not guarantee that it will be aired, scheduled, or displayed — ever. We may also pause, change, or end the free queue at any time without notice. By submitting, you accept these terms.
What's Allowed
- Original messages, art, shoutouts, promotions, or creative expressions
- Content that follows local laws and respects public safety
- Fun, weird, emotional, or inspiring messages
- Legitimate URLs, functioning websites, and identifiable brands
What's Not Allowed
To keep things respectful and legal, we don't allow:
Content & Conduct
- Nudity or sexually explicit imagery
- Profanity, hate speech, or personal attacks
- Graphic violence or gory imagery
- Innuendos or suggestive double meanings
Truth & Transparency
- False or misleading claims
- Scammy, deceptive, or shady messaging
- Footnotes, fine print, or disclaimers
Identification & Safety
- QR codes (distracted driving risk)
- Content that insults or targets individuals or businesses
- Unverified or non-functioning websites
- Unidentified sources (include a logo, username, brand name, or URL — not just a phone number)
All content is reviewed. We reserve the right to approve or reject submissions for any reason.
Political Advertisements
Yes, political ads are allowed, but they follow a stricter review process:
- Prepayment required. No exceptions.
- No attack ads. We reject ads that target or insult people, causes, or organizations.
- Clear "Paid for by…" statement with full sponsor name required.
- Higher review standard for community safety and truthfulness.
- You're responsible for local, state, and federal compliance.
Need help getting it right? Reach out before submitting — we're happy to review your design in advance.
